Disability Transport
Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. SafeRide
provides disability transport within the interior of campus.
Disability transport is limited to individuals with mobility impairments who
are registered for transportation services. After 4:30 p.m. SafeRide
becomes a safety transport that can
be used by any individual on campus. Safety transport
operates from 4:30 p.m.- 2:30 a.m. every day. See
Safety Transport for more information.
SafeRide does not operate when the
University is closed for holidays or inclement weather.
In order to
qualify for SafeRide Disability Transport documentation of a mobility
impairment must be verified by the Office of Disability Services. A mobility impairment is any temporary or permanent condition that limits
mobility. Some examples of a mobility impairment include recent
surgery, fractures or injuries to lower limbs, visual impairments, or
chronic diseases that impact stamina.
To initiate
transportation services the
Medical Verification Form should be completed by the treating
physician and returned to the Office of Disability Services. Disability Services staff will review the documentation to determine
eligibility and notify the individual via email.
Students
with a mobility impairment who are already registered with the Office of
Disability Services can contact their DS counselor or staff member with
questions about eligibility for this service.
Individuals
with a mobility impairment who are visiting campus may request SafeRide transport by contacting
Parking and Transportation Services 704.687.4285. University
personnel that are bringing visitors with mobility impairments to campus who
may need to utilize SafeRide are strongly urged to contact Parking
and Transportation Services in advance to secure services. The vehicle will get as close as possible to an accessible
entrance, but will drive and park only on paved pathways.
After
Disability Services verifies eligibility, scheduled transport
can be arranged through Parking and Transportation Services. On-demand
services may be requested by contacting Campus Police dispatch at
704.687.2200.
